Loving your job – Vocational doctrine

In this day and age we can find ourselves in great difficulty in the job market, so when we speak about our jobs we should consider ourselves hugely blessed. But jobs can be a difficult and dark place for many, whether it is in the job that we do or with the people we work. In Ephesians 6 we are told to work hard and diligently for our employers because you are working for Christ and through your job you and giving glory to Him. But are we? Repetitive jobs, boring, meaningless and mondain jobs how are we glorify Christ? In all that we do, do as if you doing it for Christ, whether in or out of the workplace.

I came across a great way of looking at how you could improve your situation at work and it was to take the attributes of God and apply them to what you do. Simple… What is God? God is creative, faithful, persistent, merciful, loving, caring, kind, gentle, encouraging, peaceful, exciting… the list goes on! I believe Christ wants us to take the attributes the Bible tells us of Christ and apply them to the boring or exciting tasks in our jobs. Be creative, God was creative in creating you, do the same. Make those long dragged out processes shorter by improving them. Give suggestions on how things can be made better, your boss can either say yes or no, and in either way he/she will probably be glad that you are thinking on improving his company.

Another way in which we can improve our jobs is to really love our neighbours, just how Christ told us to. If there is nothing else to look forward to in your job then look forward to being a good neighbour to those around you. Build up those relationships and gain their trust, in time everyone opens up and you can then speak into their lives. Pray for co-workers and bosses, ask for insight into the job and others, speak the prophetic! I believe we should love our jobs, and I know I havent, and it is easy for me to say this when I fully enjoy my job, but we need to be salt and light to those around us and be great witnesses to all we meet.

Above all these things be loving God throughout your jobs and pray to Him for the opportunities in your office. Its through your love for God that the love for others will flow, so make that our primary goal. Start your day with prayer and scripture and handover the steering wheel to Him, then put on the full armour of Christ and go to wherever or whatever work is.

I hope this might inspire you to be excited about work on monday.

Question: How we can recognize the true voice of God?

This is a great answer to a difficult question, I came across it by following @whytrustjesus on twitter, I really recommend them. Answer: This question has been asked by countless people throughout the ages. Samuel heard the voice of God, but did not recognize it until he was instructed by Eli (1 Samuel 3:1-10). Gideon

One Flock, One Shepherd

Came across this really nice devotional today through the Marketplace Leaders Daily Email. I found it amazing and challenging, so I thought I should share. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to My voice, and there shall be one flock and

Love is…

Came across this little handy work that was made by my wife’s friend up in Leicester! A lovely verse and a good one to hold and keep as a young married couple. “It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:7 I love how this verse is just a small chunk out

The Disease to Please

I am not sure if this is a largely talked about thing, but I came across a leaflet that my wife had been given about women in leadership and the 7 deadly sins! One of these sins was “the disease to please”… How have I never come across this phrase! Its a great phrase! But

Thinking mission

I am part of my local churches(Andover Baptist Church) mission team called Emit, and I recently had the privilege of writing one of the Think Mission newsletters. While writing isn’t one of my strengths I knew this would be a bit of a challenge, especially as it would probably be handed out to around 400

Seeking His Presence with Ewen & Pam Huffman

Last night (20th of Nov 2011) I had the pleasure of listening to and later chatting to a really normal, encouraging and bold man and wife of God called Ewen and Pam Huffman. They came and preached in our morning service at Andover Baptist Church, then we’re interviewed in the evening service by our minister

God things in a business like perspective

I came across this paragraph about network/layout of how God does things. This is very much in a business perspective but I find it refreshing and interesting! “Earth is God’s business. He has set up many franchises (churches) designed to send His representatives (Body of Christ) into the world to make known the best product

The future – what’s my mission?

Recently listening to a favourite preacher of mine, Ravi Zachariah, I found myself questioning the vision for my life or better the mission statement I felt was fitting for this time in my life. I think mission statements change and evolve depending on what God is doing with an through you, and I believe we
